1990s alternative rockers Jane’s Addiction and techno electronic techo whiz Moby are among the international luminaries that have been booked to perform at this year’s Pic.nic 2011 music festival taking place throughout the summer at the Tel Aviv Fairgrounds outdoor venue.
The 45-year-old Moby has been a huge presence in the dance music scene
since his second single “Go” brought him worldwide fame in 1991. A true
musical eclectic, his 1999 album Play sold more than 10 million copies
and a slew of his songs have appeared in film soundtracks and TV
commercials. After lying low for a while, Moby’s on the comeback trail
with a new album Destroyed and tour that will bring him to Israel on
July 12, along with famed DJs Kruder & Dorfmeister.
Jane’s Addiction, one of the most revered alt rock bands of the ‘80s and
‘90s are also creating new music with almost their original lineup.
Singer Perry Farrell, guitarist Dave Navarro and drummer Stephen
Perkins, with the help on bass of Dave Sitek from the Brooklyn
art-rockers TV On the Radio, are releasing The Great Escape Artist this
summer and launching a world tour including many festival slots. They’ll
arrive in Tel Aviv for their Pic.nic appearance on September 1.
Promoter Shuki Weiss promised a myriad of acts for each of the Pic.nic
shows and more international names to be announced.
