International Olympic Committee member Alex Gilady said on Wednesday that he
will ask the European Olympic Committees to reconsider its decision to hold its
41st General Assembly in Eilat this December after his fellow Committee member
was delayed by Border Control at Ben-Gurion Airport on Tuesday.
Gilady
arrived in Israel with International Triathlon Union President and IOC member
Marisol Casado late Tuesday night, but while Gilady, Israel’s first and only IOC
member, quickly passed through border control, Casado was held up for 47 minutes
despite being taken to VIP Border Control.
Casado was deeply insulted by
the treatment she was given and Gilady plans to approach the EOC and ask it to
reconsider its decision to hold its assembly in Eilat.
Casado, who
visited Jerusalem and the Dead Sea on Wednesday, is in Israel for the Triathlon
European Championships, which will take place in Eilat this weekend.
