Shahar Pe’er will celebrate her 25th birthday on Tuesday fresh off yet another
first round exit after losing 6-4, 6- 3 to Canadian Aleksandra Wozniak in the
Budapest Grand Prix on Monday.
Pe’er has been knocked out in the first
round in five of 11 tournaments in 2012, only twice progressing past a second
round and not since mid-February.
She struggled desperately on her serve
once more on Monday, being broken six times by Wozniack, ranked No. 57, in the
one hour and 35-minute encounter.
Next up for Pe’er, who remained at No.
54 in the world in Monday’s rankings, are the prestigious events in Madrid and
Rome ahead of the start of Roland Garros on May 27.
Dudi Sela, who
remained at No. 63 in the men’s rankings, will play in the clay-court tournament
in Belgrade this week and will face a qualifier in the first round.
