The US 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on Wednesday ruled that former legal counsel to the Bush administration John Yoo is immune from a lawsuit by an American citizen who claimed he had been illegally detained and tortured.
Jose Padilla, who has been convicted on terrorism charges, had accused Yoo of formulating policies under which enemy combatants were interrogated and detained.
