Andy Ram and Yoni Erlich will be aiming to claim their 15th career title
together on Sunday when they play in the final of the Serbia Open in
Belgrade.
The Israeli duo, which will be looking for its first title of
the year after losing in the final of the Chennai Open in January, defeated
Pablo Andujar and Guillermo Garcia-Lopez 6-3, 3- 6, 10-8 in an hour-and-a-half
in Saturday’s semifinals.
Ram and Erlich will next face Martin Emmrich and Andreas Siljestrom.
The Israelis will
be particularly desperate to win on Sunday as they have yet to secure their
place at this summer’s London Olympics.
Ram and Erlich are currently
ranked 50th and 48th in the world, respectively, with only 24 teams to
automatically qualify for the Olympics as per the rankings on June 11, subject
to a maximum of two teams per nation.
Shahar Pe’er will be looking to
kick-start her season in the Madrid Open this week, beginning with Sunday’s
first round match against Polona Hercog.
Pe’er hasn’t progressed past the
second round in her last six tournaments.
