Israeli gymnast Alex Shatilov won his third career medal at the European
Championships on Sunday, finishing the Floor final in Montpellier, France, in
third place.
The 25-year-old recorded a result of 15.166 points in the
final to take the bronze medal after also finishing third in the event in 2009
and winning a silver last year.
Greece’s Eleftherios Kosmidis claimed the
gold (15.766), while Dzmitry Barkalau of Belarus finished in second
(15.300).
Shatilov will be encouraged by the fact that he didn’t even
perform to his best ability in the final, recording a result 0.4 lower of the
one he did in the qualifiers, yet still taking a medal.
With also two
bronze medals to his name from the World Championships in 2009 and 2011,
Shatilov looks to be in excellent form ahead of the London Games and has every
intention of becoming Israel’s first ever medalist in the gymnastic competitions
at the Olympics.
Israel’s Felix Aronovich will also represent Israel at
the gymnastics events this summer after finishing 11th overall in the All-Around
competition in Montpellier.
