After coming so close to claiming a medal at the Beijing Games, Vered Bouskila
had to start from scratch following the retirement of partner Nike
Kornecki.
However, four years later she enters another Olympics, and once
more has her sights set on a place on the podium, this time with youngster Gil
Cohen.
Kornecki and Bouskila finished fourth in China, and although it
took time for Bouskila (29) to gel with a new partner nine years her junior, the
two have shown promising signs.
Cohen and Bouskila just missed out on a
medal in last year’s World Championships, falling two places to fourth overall
in the final day, and were unhappy with their 10th place finish at the worlds
earlier this year.
Israel’s female 470 Class duo will be expecting at the
very least another top-10 finish in London, but with Bouskila’s experience of
participating in two previous Olympics, and Cohen’s endless youthful energy, the
two have every chance of winning a surprise medal for Israel.
