Tel Aviv police were searching for the driver of a truck who struck a scooter driver in the city on Saturday, before ditching his vehicle and fleeing the scene on foot.
Police said that around 3:30 pm on Saturday a man driving a industrial-size white Isuzu truck hit a small scooter, leaving the driver on the pavement in serious condition. Shortly thereafter police found the white Isuzu truck a few blocks away parked between two buildings, but the driver was nowhere to be found.
The accident came the day after a 60-year-old bike rider was killed in a hit and run in Rishon Letzion. The driver of the truck that hit the man kept driving and then parked further down the road and came back on foot to check on the man. Police at the scene found something suspicious about the man, and arrested him, Tel Aviv police said. They added that the man admitted to hitting the bike rider, but said he did not hear or feel any impact and thus kept driving.
Also this weekend, a man fled the scene of a serious accident in Tiberias, after he drove through a red light at a high speed and hit a car turning left onto the street, leaving one person in critical condition. The victim was evacuated by hospital and by Saturday morning the northern district police said the driver turned himself in. They added that the driver could face charges of driving under the influence, reckless driving, and running a red light.
