Fayyad calls for economic boycott of Israeli goods
By KHALED ABU TOAMEH
PA prime minister calls on Palestinians to "resist occupation" in response to Israel's decision to withhold tax revenues.
Palestinian Authority Prime Minister Salam Fayyad on Sunday called on Palestinians to boycott not only settler products, but all Israelimanufactured goods.
“We call on Palestinian citizens to stop purchasing Israeli goods as a way of resisting the occupation,” Fayyad told Palestinian reporters in Ramallah.
He said his call for a total boycott of Israeli products came also in response to the Israeli government’s decision to
withhold tax revenues belonging to the PA
Fayyad urged the Arab countries to fulfill their promise to provide the PA with $100 million each month to solve its
severe financial crisis
He said that the $100m. was less than a third of what the PA government needs to meet its monthly financial obligations.
Fayyad noted that although this was not the first time that Israel had withheld funds, this time it took the liberty to use the money.
Fayyad was referring to the government’s decision to transfer more than NIS 450m. to the Israel Electricity Company to pay the PA’s debts.
Fayyad called for convening an emergency Arab summit to discuss the financial crisis in the PA.
