IDF claims soldiers fired at legs of rioters who approached, tried to damage border fence after they failed to heed warnings.

Medical sources in Gaza said Friday that IDF gunfire killed one Palestinian and injured another east of the Jabaliya refugee camp near the border, AFP reported.

The IDF Spokesman's Office stated that dozens of Palestinian rioters approached the Gaza border fence on Friday afternoon and did not heed IDF warnings to desist.

The soldiers fired warning shots in the air, and when one of the Palestinians continued in efforts to damage the border fence, they fired at his legs.

AFP quoted Gaza emergency services spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra as saying one of the men struck by IDF live fire was a farmer.

The Gaza border has been largely quiet since an Egyptian-mediated truce between Israel and Hamas ended Operation Pillar of Defense in November.

Two days after the November 21 ceasefire went into effect, Palestinian medics said that IDF fire killed one man on the Gaza border and wounded several others. The IDF stated that soldiers had fired at the legs of Palestinians attempting to breach the border fence that failed to heed warnings to stop.

Hamas accused Israel of violating the ceasefire on that occasion, and complained to Egypt over the incident.
