Website for Lollapalooza Israel disappears; festival spokeswoman characterizes cancellation as "postponement," fails to give reasons

A proposed Middle Eastern version of touring festival Lollapalooza, which was set to come to Tel Aviv in August has been cancelled. In early January, the website for Lollapalooza Israel disappeared.

A festival spokeswoman characterized the cancellation as a "postponement," but failed to give reasons for its cancellation.

According to the Los Angeles Times, rumors that Lollapalooza Israel was in trouble began to surface last month, with the Times citing Yedioth Ahronoth as reporting financial and production setbacks in setting up the festival in Hayarkon Park.

Lollapalooza is an annual music festival that began in Chicago in 2005, but has rapidly expanded to become a global gathering. It features music and craft booths, and has often provided a platform for non-profit and political groups.
