Israel suffered its first Davis Cup whitewash since 2004 on Sunday after France completed a 5-0 victory over the national team in the first round of the World Group in Rouen, with Amir Weintraub (above) dropping to a 6-4, 6-3 defeat to Richard Gasquet in the fifth and final rubber.

France entered Sunday’s matches with an unassailable 3-0 lead, allowing Israel captain Eyal Ran to play Noam Okun, who retired two years ago and traveled to France as a coach, in place of Dudi Sela in Sunday’s first singles match.

Okun, who replaced the injured Andy Ram on the team, gave Michael Llodra (ranked No. 65 in the world) a run for his money before losing 6-3, 7-6 (5).
