2. OPERA DISCOVER ‘IVONE’
A Israeli original opera in Hebrew will premiere this
weekend at the unlikely venue of the central bus station in Tel Aviv. Ivone, by
Gilad Philip Ben-David, is set in Berlin in 2009, where a secondgeneration
religious Israeli young man meets the beautiful Ivone, who lures him into a
world of violence and eroticism.

3. HAVE A HAUNTING EXPERIENCE
Celebrating Benjamin
Britten’s centennial, the Israeli Opera’s next production, in English, is the
composer’s opera The Turn of the Screw, based on the novella by Henry James.
This 20th-century English opera premiered on September 14, 1954, and was
described as one of the most dramatically appealing English operas. The story
revolves around a young governess who battles ghosts in an old English mansion
in an attempt to protect two young children.

4. LOVE THOSE
ARIAS
Well-known romantic arias from popular operas will be performed by solo
singers of Eterna Opera, the Jerusalem Chamber Opera as part of the Art Rainbow
project.

5. MUSIC HEAD FOR THE METROPOLIS
The Third Metropolis, a group
of talented performers, will premiere in Tel Aviv at the Zappa Club with guest
singer Micha Shitrit. The stellar ensemble includes Efrat Gosh, Dana Adini, Zlil
Danin and Barak Gabizon. The production, which began as a recorded project by
Ofer Meiri, has already spawned two successful CDs and is now returning with a
third album. Songs from all three albums will be performed in the
concert.

6. SING ALONG
Zimrat
Ha’aretz, an association devoted to the preservation of Israeli songs,
celebrates its fifth anniversary with a series of sing-along evenings saluting
the fathers of Israeli song, combining old and new. Based on the audience
joining in the singing with leading hosts, guest singers and musicians, the
series opens with Gila Hassid, Uzi Rosenblat and Esther Rada.
7. EXHIBITIONS
HONOR THE KING
”Herod the Great, the King’s Final Journey” is the world’s first
exhibition about the life and legacy of the controversial King Herod. Featuring
rare archeological finds, the display includes the monumental burial chamber
discovered in 2007. Guided tours are offered in English and Hebrew.

8. MIXED HELP FIGHT BREAST CANCER
The Hamashbir Latzarchan chain is holding the
annual Fight Breast Cancer event Red Lipstick Day, during which red lipsticks
will be sold for NIS 15. All the proceeds will be donated to the Israel Cancer
Association’s project Look Better, Feel Better, inspired by a similar event held
annually at Harrods of London.

9. DISCOVER THE MAGIC OF THAILAND
Sixteen dancers and nine musicians will be making
their way to Jerusalem and Tel Aviv to present traditional Thai music and dance
in a show that has wowed audiences around the world. Performing the ancient Khon
style originating in 1400, the show incorporates singing, dance, theater
acrobatics and instrumental music.
