Iron Dome intercepts 5 rockets fired at Ashkelon from Gaza; additional rocket lands in open area; no injuries reported.

The Iron Dome rocket defense system intercepted five rockets fired by Palestinian terrorists in Gaza at Ashkelon early Thursday morning.

An additional rocket may have landed in an open, uninhabited area. There were no injuries in the Palestinian attack.

“We have prepared soldiers to react to an incident at any moment,” said a commander of an Iron Dome battery.

The IAF responded to the rocket fire by attacking four targets in the northern Gaza Strip: a terror site, an underground rocket launcher, a weapons storage facility and a weapons manufacturing site, the IDF Spokesperson said.

The spokesperson confirmed there were “direct hits” for all of the targets.

On Monday, the Israel Air Force struck two targets in Gaza

in response to rocket fire on southern Israel earlier in the day.

The rockets, which landed in fields in the Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council, came shortly after the completion of the funeral service for prime minister Ariel Sharon in the nearby Sycamore Ranch.

The IDF said the targets the IAF hit were a military compound and a terror infrastructure site, adding that both strikes hit their targets accurately.
