Health Minister Yael German called for Israeli Arabs to register as organ donors, at an event held at the Knesset on Wednesday.
“I call for boosting awareness of the importance of organ donation in both the Jewish and Arab communities,” said German.
The event was attended by Arab leaders, including mayors and heads of local authorities, transplant surgeons and Dr. Bishara Bisharat, director of the English Hospital in Nazareth. It was initiated by the Israel Transplant Center.
MK Dr. Afo Agbaria (Hadash), a trained surgeon who worked for years at Meir Medical Center in Kfar Saba, attended.
Agbaria was born and lives in Umm el-Fahm and studied medicine at Saint Petersburg State University in Russia. An Arab organ recipient and a family who donated organs from their deceased relative were also present.
“Organ donations transcend sectors. Reality proves that Jews donate organs to Arabs and vice versa,” said German.
People who want to register and receive ADI donor cards can contact the organization by calling 1-800-609-610 or writing to email@example.com.
