“The only thought in my head is that he was born to save other youngsters. If not, there is no explanation for what happened,” said his mother.

When a 14-month-old boy from Eilabun in the Galilee suffered sudden lower-brain death due to intracranial pressure this week after an operation at Sourasky Medical Center in Tel Aviv failed, his family agreed to donate some of his organs.

Claudine Hadid, the mother of Iliya Hadid Hayek, decided that the family would donate their son’s organs.

“We are still shocked from the sudden death of Iliya – a happy and developed child for his age,” she said.

But they decided to give other small children the gift of life.

“The only thought in my head is that he was born to save other youngsters. If not, there is no explanation for what happened,” Hadid told the National Transplant Center.

“The body decays, but the soul rises upwards. And I wish that no other families go through what I feel now.”
