Egyptian intelligence uncovered an Israeli Mossad run spy network, arresting 12, who were collecting information on the situation in Egypt, the country’s Al-Youm al-Sabaa newspaper reported on Sunday.
According to unidentified sources quoted by the paper, the spy network, which began working last March, was connected to the intelligence agencies of a number of countries, including Israel and America.
The network was gathering information on the economic situation, the mood on the street, as well as the deployment of Egyptian security forces in the streets of Cairo, the provinces, Sinai, and the Egyptian border area.
The 12-person network was made up of three Egyptians and the rest were foreigners who entered the country as tourists, said the sources.
The suspects were also in the possession of sophisticated devices, a sniper rifle, and machine guns, and pictures of military installations and equipment, added the sources, according to the report.
