Arab-Israeli town of Taiba connected to the national water system

Part of a NIS 60 million regional venture, the Water Authority and Mekorot have finished connecting the central Arab-Israeli town of Taiba to the national water system, the authority announced on Wednesday.

Before this step, the town had been operating solely on private wells, which had become contaminated, according to the Water Authority. Connection to the national water supply will allow for a reliable water supply to the town’s residents, the authority said.

The steps taken in Taiba are part of a larger overall plan to also properly connect neighboring Tira and Kochav Yair. Continuation of the line toward these two towns will begin this year, and will be completed between 2015 and 2016, the Water Authority added.
