Following the recent abduction and tragic murder of three Yeshiva students - Gil-Ad Shaer, Eyal Yifrah, and Naftali Fraenkel - the Prime Minister's Office along with the ministries of Finance, Transportation, and Education announced a joint initiative to expand transportation services to students living and studying in Judea and Samaria.

As part of the initiative the Finance Ministry will allocate a sum of up to NIS 4 million in 2014 for the endeavor, though it remains unclear how many schools will receive the transportation services or how they will be chosen.

“There is a lack of understanding of the scope and magnitude of the problem which is that to travel throughout Judea and Samaria by hitchhiking is dangerous,” Gush Etzion Regional Council Head David Pearl said to Army Radio on Thursday.

“You can't pull solutions out of your sleeve, we need to sit and think and budget carefully to a level that every student in every institution will be able to get home safely,” he said.
