27% of Israelis don't have access to bomb shelters

More than one-fourth of Israelis do not have access to bomb shelters or safe rooms, the Knesset Interior Committee learned Tuesday.

Col. Benny Schick, the head of Home Front Command's efforts to provide safe spaces for citizens during bombings, told MKs the statistic and said that local authorities are responsible for ensuring schools have such rooms.

In response to MKs Tamar Zandberg (Meretz) and Merav Michaeli (Labor) who complained that Beduin villages are not protected, Schick said Beduins have been given extensive instructions and were offered solutions by the Home Front Command, which they did not accept.
