In solidarity with the recent conflict in Gaza, Palestinian families have been naming their newborns after elements in the enclave and the "resistance" against Israel during Operation Protective Edge.

Gaza Tuqawim (translated as Gaza is fighting), the infant daughter of a family that left the Strip's Shejaiya district to avoid Israeli strikes, comes from a long line of namesake lineage.

In a video interview with Lebanon's Mayadeen TV this week, translated by MEMRI , Gaza Tuqawim's father Nidhal (struggle), explained that his family always names its new members after the "resistance," with his siblings bearing names such as Kifah (fight), Silah (weapon), Tahrir (liberation), Hurriya (freedom), Mujahid and Jihad.

In the footage, another Gazan family explained that it had named their son Qassam after Hamas's military wing Izz ad-Din al-Kassam which launched an attack at Israel at the start of hostilities this summer.
