Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Mouallem said Tuesday that his government is ready to resume peace talks with Israel.
Al-Mouallem said in an address to the UN General Assembly that the talks would only resume if Syria can find "in Israel a partner committed to the terms of reference of peace making, and if that partner has the political will to achieve peace."

The Syrian foreign minister said the talks would take off from the point where they were halted after the IDF Gaza flotilla raid. Al-Mouallem said the talks would be mediated by Turkey.
According to al-Mouallem, the peace talks would include a resolution of the Syrian Golan Heights issue.
Syria's position on the issue was reiterated and al-Mouallem said that the Golan is 'not negotiable nor is it a bargaining chip.'
'Recognition of the fact that it must be returned fully is the basis on which peace making arrangements should be made,' he said.
