For Lottie Herman it’s never too late to achieve her dream of making aliya.The 92-year-old American is making aliya after years of thinking of doing so. Herman fled to America from Germany in 1939.“It was always her dream to come to Israel,” her daughter, Carrie Wachtel said.She is expected to arrive Tuesday at 7:00 a.m. on a Nefesh B’Nefesh flight from Newark, New Jersey. She will live in Jerusalem in a private apartment with a caregiver, though she has plenty of family who live in Israel.Herman will be welcomed at the airport by Wachtel, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.Wachtel’s husband accompanied Herman on the flight.Wachtel, who has lived in Israel with her husband for 12 years, said she believes it is important for her mother to come to Israel especially given everything that has happened in the past few weeks.“No matter how hard it is here, this is where we have to be,” Wachtel said. “If we run from Israel, where are we going to run to?”
