Traffic police have arrested a man from Lod on suspicion of being linked to a hit-and-run accident on Friday night that killed a young man as he crossed the street with his wife.
The suspect, 35, was taken into custody on Sunday night, and police believe he was in the Mazda Lantis that struck Ilan Sirik on the city’s Einstein Street.
The suspect denied all suspicions against him during questioning on Monday.
The arrest came after police launched an extensive search for the driver over the weekend.
Sikrik’s widow said she saw the car stop for a moment before it fled the scene. The couple had been walking toward the Lod train station on their way to their home in Ashdod.
Meanwhile, in a separate incident, police in the North arrested a man on suspicion of being linked to a hit-and-run accident that left a man moderately injured.
The accident, which occurred on Saturday near Nazareth, involved an all-terrain vehicle hitting a resident of Turan village before speeding away.
Traffic police said they tracked down the vehicle within 24 hours along with the suspected driver, a 21-year-old resident of the village of Mashad.
Police said the suspect had previously had his license revoked by a Traffic Court for serious driving violations.
The suspect confessed to being involved in the incident, police said.
