A man was moderately wounded in an explosion in his car in Kiryat Gat, Lachish subdistrict police said Thursday evening.
Police would not divulge the identity of the victim, but said that the incident was criminally motivated.
The victim managed to flee the car on his own and was taken to Soroka Hospital in Beersheba, where he was listed in moderate condition, police said.
His condition has since improved, and he has regained consciousness.
Police said they were still in the initial investigation of the blast, which took place on Malchei Yisrael street in the city, and would not say if it was caused by a bomb, a grenade or some other device.
The explosion is the third underworld blast in the Lachish subdistrict since October. The past two left one man dead and two men seriously wounded.
All three victims were associates of mobster Shalom Domrani’s organization, which is based in Ashkelon but has interests across southern and central Israel, including in Kiryat Gat.
Domrani’s organization is currently involved in a blood feud with former top lieutenant Benny Shlomo, who is based out of Moshav Heletz, near Kiryat Gat and not far from Domrani’s home in Moshav Otzem.
