A van struck a man and his wife, seriously injuring them, as they walked across
a pedestrian crossing in Ashkelon Monday.
Magen David Adom paramedics
rushed the couple, in their 70s, to the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon,
where they were classified as being in serious condition and suffering from head
injuries.
Police have detained the van driver for
questioning.
Magen David Adom spokesman Zaki Heller said the man was in
critical condition and unconscious when the couple was found by paramedics,
while the woman was in moderate condition.
Later on Monday, a vehicle
struck and killed a woman in Bnei Brak who was walking across a pedestrian
crossing.
The woman, 49, was critically injured and rushed to the Sheba
Medical Center in Tel Hashomer, where she died of her injuries.
Also on
Monday, the Safed Magistrate’s Court extended by five days the remand of a
40-year-old driver who ran over a man and a woman.
The driver lost
control of his vehicle and went up on the curb, fatally striking a 20-yearold
man and critically injuring a 27-year-old woman at Mahanayim Junction, in the
Upper Galilee.
Police suspect the driver may have mixed alcohol with
prescription drugs.
