Police on Tuesday announced that they had arrested a 21-year-old resident from one of the settlements around Jerusalem in connection with attacks against Peace Now activist Hagit Ofran, who found graffiti spray painted around her apartment reading "Hagit (of blessed memory) you're dead!" and "Kahane was right."
The man was arrested late Monday night and has refused to cooperate with the investigation by exercising his right to remain silent. Police spokesman Shmuel Ben Ruby said there is "solid evidence" against the man, including the fact that he was arrested before for vandalizing the Peace Now offices in the German Colony neighborhood of Jerusalem as well as a light rail station.
On Tuesday afternoon the Jerusalem Magistrate Court extended his remand until Friday.
Also late on Monday night police arrested a 20-year-old Jerusalem resident who is suspected of slashing the tires of four cars belonging to Arab residents of east Jerusalem over the past few months. The man is also suspected of spray-painting "price tag" on a number of cars belonging to Arabs as well.
The attacks took place on Knafei Nesharim Street in the neighborhood of Givat Shaul. During the investigation, the man admitted to the attacks and said he carried them out "because they parked in my place."
On Tuesday, the Jerusalem Magistrate Court extended his remand until Wednesday.
