Police investigating assault against undercover officers; incident occurs near site of ’08 yeshiva terrorist attack.

Two undercover Israeli- Arab police officers, speaking in Arabic while patrolling Jerusalem’s Kiryat Moshe neighborhood, were attacked by several students near the entrance of a yeshiva Tuesday morning, police said.According to Israel Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld, the assault took place close to the Mercaz Harav yeshiva, where in 2008 a Palestinian terrorist opened fire on a crowded study hall, killing eight and wounding six. The terrorist was subsequently shot dead by a soldier.“A number of people in the area heard [the officers] speak in Arabic and in a short space of time, students from the neighborhood gathered to confront them,” Rosenfeld said.“Following a verbal altercation, a fight broke out and one of the officers was lightly injured and the other officer was unharmed.”Rosenfeld described the incident as minor, but added that while no arrests were made, police are actively investigating the matter and will apprehend the suspects involved.
