Police arrested a man from Ashdod on Thursday on suspicion of choking his
14-year-old daughter with a belt as she slept in her bed.
Paramedics
rushed the girl to the Barzilai Medical Center in Ashkelon, where she is in
moderate condition, according to doctors.
Police said the suspect, in a
rage due to a prior verbal dispute, entered his daughter’s room after his wife
left home for work, and began choking her with the belt.
“We’re looking
into the background of this incident, and what proceeded it,” police spokesman
Micky Rosenfeld said.
The teenage girl woke up and attempted to free
herself from her father’s grip, but could not succeed, and lost
consciousness.
Minutes later, police added, the father called them and
reported the incident.
Police dispatched a Magen David Adom crew to the
address, which provided first aid before moving her to the
hospital.
Rosenfeld said the girl continued to receive medical care at
the hospital on Thursday evening.
