The State Prosecutor’s Office of Internal Affairs submitted an indictment on
Monday against Nazareth police officer Abad Duha for attempted
murder.
Duha was also charged with causing bodily harm under aggravated
circumstances, attack, making threats and obstruction of the
investigation.
According to the indictment, in three separate incidents,
Duha used his police-issued gun and his own private gun to try to kill, hurt or
threaten a number of people who he believed were trying to make contact with and
harass a woman he had been romantically involved with.
Some of the
incidents were captured on video by nearby security cameras.
In one
incident late September, Duha traveled to Shfaram to demand that a man named
Muhammad Baizan meet with him, said the indictment. Although Baizan initially
resisted, according to the indictment he eventually came to meet Duha. The
indictment states that Duha and Baizan fought, escalating to the point where
Duha fired three bullets at Baizan, wounding him twice.
Later, Duha
misled the investigators about where the event had occurred, trying to hide
evidence of the event, noted the indictment.
The state requested to
remand Duha to police custody until the end of the proceedings.
