A 22-year-old man from the Israeli-Arab village of I'billin was arrested Sunday night on suspicion of stabbing his 22-year-old sister in the thigh, in an attack that led to her death shortly thereafter.

Northern District Spokesman Moshe Weitzman said that the woman was stabbed at the family home and began losing a lot of blood and then fell from the second floor of the building. She was critically injured in the fall and rushed to Rambam Hospital in Haifa, where she died of her wounds.

Weitzman said the brother was arrested not long after the attack, adding that he had changed his clothes but blood stains could still be seen on the clothes he was wearing. His parents were themselves detained, on suspicion of destroying evidence, but were released not long after.

The case has been handled by the northern branch of the YAMAR investigative unit, and police say that so far they believe the attack was linked to a dispute between the brother's wife and the sister. Police believe an argument between the two got out of control Sunday night and the brother stabbed his sister, leading to her death.

On Monday the brother will be brought to the Nazareth Magistrate's Court for a remand extension.

Also in the Northern District, a 45-year-old man was shot and killed in Nazareth Monday morning as he exited a kiosk at the Mesubim junction in the city.

Police said they set up roadblocks in the city to try to find the white car seen fleeing the apparent drive-by shooting, but that so far no suspects have been arrested.
