A 13-year-old Beersheba girl was hospitalized in moderate condition on Saturday afternoon, after she was attacked and bitten across her face and upper body by an Amstaff dog in the city.
The girl was reportedly walking with a friend next to a public park in the Na’al Ashan neighborhood of the city, when the dog attacked her.
The girl was rushed by Magen David Adom paramedics to Soroka University Medical Center in the city, suffering from severe lacerations to her face and upper body.
Police suspect the dog had not been tied up properly by its owner before the attack.
Shortly after the attack, police detained the dog’s owner and his 14-year-old son, and after a short investigation, decided to arrest the boy on suspicion of negligence.
Police said the boy was the one with the dog at the time of the attack, and for some reason decided to release the dog, who ran off and attacked the girl.
The dog is currently in a Beersheba city quarantine, and police said it will be up to the city to decide whether or not to euthanize it.
