Leaders of the summer’s “J14” protest movement for social justice announced Sunday what they called the formation of a political movement based on the protests that swept the country over the summer.Daphni Leef, the 26-year-old Tel Avivian who started the nationwide tent city protests against housing costs this July with a post on Facebook, said the movement “will forge an extra-parliamentary means to protest the cost of living, fight for Israeli democratic and cultural values and serve all branches of the protest that started this past summer.”RELATEDLeef bringing social movement message to UKIn a press release on Sunday, Leef and other fellow protest leaders said the movement will be called “B is a tent,” a slogan popular on posters and t-shirts worn by protesters over the summer.
They said that the movement will focus on what they called the one real accomplishment of the movement – the formation of connections between “the creative, moderate and democratic people in each of the sectors of society, in order to strengthen the public against the government on the national and local level.”They vowed that the movement will hold “social congresses” across the country, launch a social issues media office and fight for affordable housing and improvements in public welfare.
