The College of Management – Academic Studies (COMAS) announced on Tuesday that Professor Eitan Sheshinski has joined the faculty of the School of Economics in an effort to launch a public economics research institute.
Professor Sheshinski, a leading academic in the field of economics, will aim to build a platform within the School of Economics that will serve as a focal point for public discussion as well as a magnet for prominent academic talents in the field of economics. The new institute will further aim to shape research directions, write position papers, initiate public debate, and attract notable figures from Israel and abroad who will express their opinions on the central issues on the public agenda.
"I am proud that one of the most senior academics in Israel is joining our ranks.  To Prof. Sheshinski's credit are both his extensive activities in the academic sector, alongside his contributions to the public sector,” said Professor Seev Neumann, President of COMAS.
“I am confident that the research institute that he is establishing will be a magnet that will set the path of progress for policy makers in the field of economics."
Professor Sheshinski served as a professor of economics at the Hebrew University and is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.  In 2010 he was appointed to head the committee to examine the tax policy for natural gas and oil resources, whose recommendations were adopted by the government in 2011.
