A prominent leader of Ramle's Muslim community was found murdered inside a local mosque in the city on Thursday, Shfela Subdistrict police confirmed.
Muhammed Taji, 80, was the head of the local "Waqf", and supervised the local Muslim sites and holy places in the city.
Police did not say how he was killed, but he was reportedly found with stab wounds in his upper body.
Because of the highly-sensitive nature of the incident, police have been hesitant to divulge details, and have deployed special YASSAM patrol officers to keep the peace in the mixed Arab-Jewish city.
