Israeli citizens are suspected of having set fire to multiple tents and vehicles outside of Mukhmas in east Jerusalem shortly after midnight on Saturday night, an IDF spokesperson reported.

The suspects were also alleged to have attacked residents of the village and left-wing activists staying in a makeshift tent during the event using blunt weapons.

The IDF reported that, during investigations of the surrounding area, a vehicle with Israeli plates was found containing blunt weapons. The vehicle was confiscated by the district police for continued investigation.

Following the event, several Palestinians, foreign citizens, and Israelis who were at the scene were evacuated for medical treatment.

The IDF and Shin Bet (Israel Securty Agency) have launched an investigation in an effort to locate and catch the perpetrators.

Attack on Palestinians at Shavei Shomron junction

A similar attack took place earlier this month, when the IDF reported detaining three suspects at Shavei Shomron junction in Samaria in the West Bank on suspicion of setting fire to four Palestinian vehicles with Molotov cocktails.

The suspects were among dozens of masked settlers who were said to have vandalized property in the area, it said.

Two Palestinians were inside one of the vehicles when it was set alight. One managed to escape but was beaten with clubs by the settlers.

The two were evacuated for medical treatment and were in moderate condition, Israeli media outlets reported.
