Iran's state-run Press TV announced that Iran has deployed its “most advanced long-range ballistic missile,” the Khorramshahr 4, in one of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’s (IRGC) underground “missile cities” on Thursday.

The deployment of the missile comes as the IRGC shifts from a defensive position to an offensive position, Press TV said, adding that the pivot “carries a clear message to regional and extra-regional adversaries.”

According to Press TV, the Khorramshahr 4 has a range of 2,000 km (1,240 miles) and is capable of carrying a 1,500 kg warhead.

According to IRGC-aligned Fars News Agency, the Khorramshahr 4 has an accuracy of around 30 meters and is “one of the main pillars of Iran’s active deterrence.”

Khorramshahr 4 speed intended to evade enemy defense systems

Fars additionally claimed that the speed, which ranges from Mach 16 when outside of Earth’s atmosphere to Mach 8 inside the atmosphere, is intended to minimize “ the reaction time of enemy defense systems.”

The Khorramshahr 4 is also equipped with “intermediate guidance, reduced radar cross-section, and high resistance to electronic warfare” in order to “significantly increase its penetration ability.”
