Iran is prepared for a diplomatic approach with the US or “a remorseful response that would make any aggressor regret their malicious behavior,” Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf warned on Wednesday.

Speaking at the Iran Guild Chamber in Tehran in direct response to US President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, Ghalibaf stressed that “all options remain on the table.”

Regarding remarks by US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff that Trump didnt understand why the Iranians haven't surrendered purely from the arsenal the US has amassed in the Middle East, Ghalibaf insisted the US government lacks a proper understanding of the Iranian people.

“The threats and wrong behaviors of the enemies continue," Ghalibaf said.

Ghalibaf insisted if US commits to diplomacy, Iran will, too

The speaker insisted that so long as the US commits to diplomacy and “respects Iran’s national dignity and mutual interests,” then Tehran would be prepared to negotiate.

“Any attempt to repeat past mistakes through deception, lies, flawed analyses, or attacks during negotiations would provoke a decisive response from the Iranian nation and its defense forces,” he said.

Ghalibaf's remarks came just before Iran and the US are set to resume nuclear negotiations on Thursday in Geneva.
