Rabbi Ovadia Yosef attacks party, headed by Bennett, as a "house for goyim," forbids religious Jews from voting for them.
Shas spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef on Saturday evening attacked Bayit Yehudi (Jewish home) as a "house for goyim" that religious Jews should not vote for, Israel Radio reported.
Speaking during his weekly sermon, Yosef said that Bayit Yehudi wanted to "uproot the Torah, have civil marriages and public transportation on Shabbat. What kind of religious are these. They should not be called religious and they should not be voted for."
In the run up to the election, Shas has campaigned strongly for “preserving the Jewish character of the state” and has insisted on maintaining stringencies imposed by the haredi establishment on the state conversion system while denouncing the notion of civil unions in lieu of marriage.
The spiritual leader of the Shas movement, suffered a mild stroke last Saturday during the morning prayer service.
