Playing from the heart

Internationally acclaimed classical guitarist Emanuele Segre says he fell in love with the sound of the guitar at 11.

Italian classical guitarist Emanuele Segre will perform with the Ra’anana
Symphonette under the baton of his compatriot, maestro Carlo Goldstein. The
program features Castelnuovo-Tedesco’s Guitar Concerto in D Major and Rodrigo’s
Concierto de Aranjuez, as well as Beethoven’s Symphony No. 4.
On the eve
of his Israeli premiere, Segre, an acclaimed musician says that he started
playing guitar at age 11.
“Ours was not a musical family, although my
father studied violin in his youth. But when my mother enrolled me in school and
had to choose a musical instrument, she opted for the guitar. The reason was
that her father had brought an instrument from Latin America, where he worked
before WW I. So for her, the choice of instrument was obvious. Luckily
enough, I fell in love with the guitar immediately – I loved its sound and its
possibilities.”
Segre performs throughout the world with a varied repertoire. “What I especially
like about the guitar is that you produce the sound with your own fingers. You
touch the strings directly and by that create a sound – that is different from
playing violin or cello, where a bow is required.”
