Gal-On calls on Knesset panel to stop Netanyahu speech to Congress

The Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee must try to prevent Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from speaking to Congress, Meretz leader Zehava Gal-On said Thursday.

Gal-On called for Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee chairman Yariv Levin (Likud) to summon senior Israeli diplomats in the US to an emergency meeting of the panel next week to find out how it would be possible to stop Netanyahu's planned March speech to both houses of Congress.

"Consuls warned the Foreign Ministry that Netanyahu's speech will not only harm Israel's relations with the White House, but also US relations with the moderate Jewish community," she posited.

The Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee does not have the authority to prevent Netanyahu from speaking.
