The IDF uncovered what it said was a powerful bomb planted on the Gaza - Israel border on Tuesday morning.

The bomb, placed on the Palestinian side of the border with southern Gaza, was found next to the security fence, and was designed to go off as an army patrol passed by.

The army made the explosive safe.

"Terrorist elements are exploiting the area near the fence to plant explosives and activate terrorism against the IDF and Israeli civilians," the army said in a statement. It added that it took a grave view of any attempt to harm Israelis.
