Two dozen Jerusalem daycare children diagnosed with stomach pains

Nearly 24 two-year-old boys and girls enrolled at a Jerusalem daycare center have been diagnosed with severe stomach pain, including one case of Salmonella. According to Ynet, an investigation by the Jerusalem District Health Office found the sicknesses began in late April, when 15 of the class’s 24 children first became ill, and one was hospitalized. A district health supervisor was immediately dispatched to the daycare and took samples of food stored there. Although the samples did not test positive for Salmonella, they did test positive for several other pathogens.
According to the daycare’s owners, the center was promptly sterilized and the food was inspected. “To the best of our knowledge, the inspection did not prove that the children were infected during their time in daycare, and the possibility that Salmonella was the cause of their infections has been completely ruled out,” the center said in a statement. “Despite this, we are working determinedly with the Health Ministry to ensure there are no hazards, even theoretical ones.”
