Islamic Jihad claims 'commitment to ceasefire with Israel'

The militant wing of Islamic Jihad announced that it was committed to a ceasefire with Israel "so long as Israel fulfills its responsibility and stops attacks against the Palestinian people in Gaza."
The Islamic Jihad spokesperson, Abu Ahmed, added that Islamic Jihad had accepted the ceasefire proposal drafted by European and Arab officials with "the desire to safeguard our people's interests and not give Israel an excuse to begin a wide-scale military operation in Gaza."
Earlier Sunday, the group claimed responsibility for firing a rocket and three mortars into Israel. The projectiles caused no injuries but the mortar fire did cut power to some towns in southern Israel.
