The Knesset Labor, Social Welfare and Health Committee will hold a special discussion on Monday morning about the discovery of polio virus in the sewage in six places in the Negev.The locations where the virus was found included the Beduin city of Rahat and Beersheba.The Health Ministry, which conducts regular checks of sewage around the country to determine if there is vestige of the virus, said there was “no reason to panic” as no one had developed the disease of paralysis for some two decades.The source was probably someone who was exposed to the virus in another country such as Egypt. But as a precautionary measure, parents have been asked to complete polio vaccinations in Rahat and elsewhere in the area and to avoid the virus by watching hands well after going to the toilet, before changing children’s diapers and before eating. There was no need to boil drinking water anywhere, the ministry said.Ministry director-general Prof. Ronni Gamzu will appear at the Knesset committee meeting.
