The yearly two-day “Home & Home” competition between Caesarea Golf Club and Ga’ash Golf Club came to a thrilling climax last Wednesday. The competition between teams comprised of 26 players from each club was played in two stages. The first day, played at Ga’ash, involved 13 pairs matches, while the second day, at Caesarea, saw all players from the opposing sides going head-to-head in individual match play.A victory in each match meant a point for the winning club. A draw was worth a half point for each side.Ga’ash took the lead at the end of the first day with a score of 8½ to 4½. However, the highly motivated team from Caesarea was determined to reverse the first day’s results in order to retain the championship trophy for the fifth consecutive year.At the end of the first 18 individual matches, the score still tilted in Ga’ash’s favor, but the team from Caesarea would not be denied. The momentum swung toward Caesarea as it won six consecutive matches. The final results showed Caesarea winning by a score of 20½ to 18½.Despite the charged competitive atmosphere, both teams maintained a high level of camaraderie and etiquette. Management of the two clubs congratulated all participants – and, of course, the winners – at a joint awards ceremony held immediately following the end of play.
