Israel’s Lior Sofer claimed the gold medal at the Cable Wakeboard Open World Championships on Saturday, while Guy Firer took the bronze in the men’s open event at the Morelos Acuaski Action Park in Mexico.
Sofer, 31, was crowed as world champion for the second time in three years after also taking the title in 2014. The 19-year-old Firer built on his success in the junior event last week when he won the world title for a third straight year. Firer is also the two-time defending senior champion at the European championships.
Israel’s delegation also registered success in the ladies wakeskate final in Mexico, with Ori Boujo claiming a silver medal. Boujo, 23, is the two-time defending European champion in the event.
All three of Israel’s medalists are supported by Ayelet, the Federation of Non-Olympic Competitive Sport in Israel.
“This is an historic season for the sport in Israel,” said Israel Water Skiing Association CEO Maoz Tal. “We will build on this and I’m convinced that we will also see impressive triumphs at the World Games in Poland in 2017.”
