A senior Hebrew University professor, Stanley Schneider, was arrested in Jerusalem on Tuesday, after he allegedly posed as a gynecologist and sexually abused a young patient. Schneider's remand was extended by five days on Wednesday. He was arrested following a complaint by representatives of a forum against sexual abuse in the national-religious sector, after a lengthy police investigation. A 17-year-old girl had contacted the forum after seeing Schneider for gynecological treatment and allegedly suffering abuse. Police found that while Schneider was an esteemed professor, he was not qualified to serve as a gynecologist. His attorney, speaking on Channel 10, denied all the allegations. Schneider is a senior fellow at the the Hebrew University in Jerusalem's Magid Institute for Continuing and Adult Education. He heads the university's Integrative Psychotherapy program, and has been a senior adviser in a program for Therapeutic Intervention with the Aid of Pets for several years. Both programs are directed at advanced master's and doctoral students. Police said Schneider was not qualified to be a gynecologist, psychiatrist, therapist or psychologist. A request for a response from the Magid Institute by The Jerusalem Post yielded no results.
