“Industrial actions” by the French Air Traffic Control, meaning a strike, could
delay flights across Europe, discount Airline easyJet warned on
“The French authorities have advised all airlines to expect
disruption to flights,” EasyJet said in a statement. “As a consequence, easyJet
has been asked by the DGAC [the French civil aviation authority] to reduce its
French flights by 30 percent and as a result will cancel at least 50 flights to
and from Paris Charles de Gaulle, Paris Orly, Basel, Bordeaux, Lyon, Marseilles
“The strike will also impact all flights that overfly
French airspace,” the statement said.
“More than 70 percent of easy-
Jet’s flights operate through French airspace, and so there is a risk of delays
and late notice cancellations depending on the scale and effects of the strike
Destinations such as Spain, Portugal, Italy, Cyprus, Greece and
North Africa all are in danger of disruption, the airline said, noting that the
strike would affect other airlines as well.
The strike comes in protest
against plans to unify airspace in the European Union.
