Obama's national security advisor plans debut Israel visit

WASHINGTON -- National Security Advisor Susan Rice will make her first visit to Israel since resuming her post in June 2013.

Over the summer, US President Barack Obama's chief foreign policy advisor led a review of America's long-term strategy in the Middle East. She determined that relations with Iran, and peace between Israel and the Palestinians, were the country's two greatest national security priorities in the region.

Spokeswoman for the National Security Council Caitlin Hayden said Obama asked Rice to make the trip after "very productive consultations" between him and Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu on Monday.

"Ambassador Rice looks forward to her first visit to Israel as National Security Advisor to continue our strategic consultations on a wide range of bilateral and regional issues," Hayden said.

Rice will visit in May for the US-Israel Consultative Group, leading the US team.
